According to the new data released by the General Administration of Customs on January 12, in dollar terms, textile and garment exports in December 2023 were 25.27 billion US dollars, which turned to positive growth again after 7 months of the same period, with an increase of 2.6% and a month-on-month increase of 6.8%. Exports gradually emerged from the trough and stabilized for the better. Among them, textile exports increased by 3.5% and clothing exports increased by 1.9%.


In 2023, the global economy is recovering slowly due to the epidemic, the economies of all countries are generally declining, and weak demand in major markets has led to a reduction in orders, which makes the growth of China's textile and garment exports lack momentum. In addition, changes in the geopolitical pattern, accelerated supply chain adjustment, RMB exchange rate fluctuations and other factors have brought pressure to the development of textile and garment foreign trade. In 2023, China's textile and apparel cumulative exports of 293.64 billion US dollars, down 8.1% year-on-year, although failed to break through 300 billion US dollars, but the decline is less than expected, exports are still higher than in 2019. From the perspective of export market, China still occupies a major position in the traditional markets of Europe, the United States and Japan, and the export volume and proportion of emerging markets are also increasing year by year. The joint construction of the "Belt and Road" has become a new growth point to drive exports.


In 2023, China's textile and garment export enterprises pay more attention to brand building, global layout, intelligent transformation and green environmental protection awareness, and the comprehensive strength of enterprises and product competitiveness have been greatly improved. In 2024, with the further landing of policy measures to stabilize the economy and stabilize foreign trade, the gradual recovery of external demand, more convenient trade exchanges, and the accelerated development of new forms and models of foreign trade, China's textile and garment exports are expected to continue to maintain the current growth trend and reach a new high.


Textile and garment exports according to RMB: From January to December 2023, the cumulative textile and garment exports were 2,066.03 billion yuan, down 2.9% from the same period last year (the same below), of which textile exports were 945.41 billion yuan, down 3.1%, and garment exports were 1,120.62 billion yuan, down 2.8%.


In December 2023, textile and garment exports were 181.19 billion yuan, an increase of 5.5% year on year, an increase of 6.7% month on month, of which textile exports were 80.35 billion yuan, an increase of 6.4%, a growth of 0.7% month on month, and clothing exports were 100.84 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7%, a growth of 12.0% month on month.


Textile and garment exports in US dollars: from January to December 2023, the cumulative textile and garment exports were 293.64 billion US dollars, down 8.1%, of which textile exports were 134.05 billion US dollars, down 8.3%, and clothing exports were 159.14 billion US dollars, down 7.8%.
